1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and encrypted password. OAuth providers (Google, Facebook) share your basic profile info.

Uploaded Files: Subtitle files you upload for translation are stored temporarily on our servers or cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) and are automatically deleted within 24 hours of upload.

Usage Data: We track translation volume (lines translated per month) to enforce plan limits. We collect anonymous analytics such as page views and feature usage.

Payment Information: Payment processing is handled by Paddle. We do not store your credit card details. Paddle provides us with transaction status and subscription details.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve our subtitle translation service
  • To authenticate you and manage your account
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions
  • To send transactional emails (password reset, account verification)
  • To prevent abuse and enforce rate limits
  • To analyze usage patterns and improve the product

3. Data Storage & Retention

Uploaded subtitle files are automatically deleted within 24 hours. Translation results are retained for 7 days, then the files are deleted while metadata records are kept for your history page. You can manually delete your translation records at any time.

Account data is retained for the lifetime of your account. Upon account deletion request, all personal data is removed within 30 days.

4. Browser Extension Permissions

Our Chrome extension requests the following permissions to function:

  • activeTab / scripting: Detect video elements on the current page and extract subtitle data from supported platforms (YouTube, Bilibili, Netflix, etc.).
  • storage: Save your preferences (language settings, font size, display options) locally on your device.
  • alarms: Keep the extension background process alive for continuous subtitle tracking during video playback.
  • Host permissions (specific video sites): Inject subtitle overlays and extract subtitle data only on supported video platforms.
  • Optional host permissions: Requested only when you use the extension on a video site not in our default list.

Subtitle processing: Original subtitle text is sent to our translation API for processing. Translated text is returned to your browser. We do not permanently store the content of subtitles you translate. Pre-translation caches are stored locally in your browser and expire after 7 days.

Page context: The extension detects video elements and subtitle sources on web pages you visit. This processing happens entirely in your browser — page content is not sent to our servers unless you initiate a translation.

5. Third-Party Services

  • Anthropic / OpenAI / DeepSeek: Used for AI translation. Subtitle text is sent to these services for translation and returned results are stored in your account.
  • Paddle / Stripe: Payment processing. Subject to their respective privacy policies.
  • Google OAuth: Used for sign-in. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare R2: File storage. Files are encrypted at rest.
  • Supabase: Database hosting for user accounts and translation records.

6. Data Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Uploaded files are stored in isolated cloud storage and not accessible to other users. We implement rate limiting and monitoring to prevent unauthorized access.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Export your translation history
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication (session tokens) and CSRF protection. We use analytics cookies to understand usage patterns. You can disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings.

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be notified via email or a notice on our website. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
